Frequently Asked Questions

Will OHIP cover my costs?

The Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) will cover the cost of an annual examination for children (age 0 to 19 years) and those over 64 years of age.

In addition, people with diabetes, cataracts, glaucoma, amblyopia (lazy eye), strabismus (turned eye), visual field defects, retinal disease and corneal disease are covered for annual exams. Fees for ocular emergencies (like eye infections) are at the doctor's discretion, as outlined by new OHIP regulations.

Note: Some people have employment insurance benefits that cover the cost of regular eye examinations. Check with your employer.
